The movie.guru score ranked these, not me. Five docs, one stage show, two actual dramas. The math is the math. Argue with the math.

Number one is a concert film from a director who never met restraint.

  1. 8You Had To Be There: How the Toronto Godspell Ignited the Comedy Revolution, Spread Love & Overalls, and Created a Community That Changed the World (In a Canadian Kind of Way) poster
The longest title of the decade earns every syllable.
Godspell, overalls and Canadian comedy history. Audiences beat 97% of movies, yet only 124 people rated it on IMDb. You've heard of it now. No excuses.
  2. 7The Ballad of Wallis Island poster
Tim Key and Carey Mulligan made a small British miracle.
97% on Rotten Tomatoes and just $1.6 million domestic. It's gentle, it's funny, and it was way too quiet at the box office for how good it is.
  3. 6CODA poster
    CODA (2021)9.0
Lovely, sure. Also the most predictable movie on here.
Troy Kotsur steals every scene he's in. The Guru's Take is 8.1, under its 9.0 movie.guru score, because you can call every beat by minute twenty.
  4. 5Becoming Led Zeppelin poster
Pure worship, and you'll forgive it by the first drum fill.
Critics beat 91% of movies, audiences 92%. It pulled $10.4 million domestic, which is legit nuts for a music doc.
  5. 4Rite Here Rite Now poster
Fans gave it a perfect score. The Guru gave it 7.4.
Audiences beat 100% of movies and IMDb sits at 8.5, but that's 2,363 devotees voting. Concert film first, story a distant second.
  6. 3Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger poster
Two brothers, one camera, zero chance of a group hug.
97% on Rotten Tomatoes and $12.5 million worldwide, only $2 million of it domestic. America still doesn't get Oasis. America is wrong.
  7. 2Hadestown: The Musical poster
A filmed stage show beating real movies. And deserving it.
Guru's Take of 9.2, the highest here, plus $20.7 million domestic. Eva Noblezada and Amber Gray make a theater seat feel like the front row.
  8. 1EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert poster
Baz Luhrmann plus vintage Elvis beats everything. Yes, everything.
A+ CinemaScore, 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, $23.5 million worldwide on a reported $10 to 11 million budget. The King still outgrossed everyone here but Hadestown.
Change my mind. Rank these from most to least likely to make you cry in public.

$418.37 says you comment that Oasis should be number one, then spend the weekend humming Wonderwall.
