It's 2023, about a month before Elizabeth Holmes starts her prison sentence for defrauding Theranos investors. She and her partner Billy Evans invite Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, who co-direct, to film them at the beach house they're renting in Del Mar, California. Fielder starts to suspect he isn't getting the whole story. Two years later he sits down with Amanda Seyfried, who once played Holmes on TV, and they rebuild the private moments the cameras never caught, with Christopher Abbott stepping in as Evans. Part documentary, part reenactment. One hundred seventy-four minutes, so clear your evening.
Anyone with three free hours and a lot of questions. Snacks recommended.
One hundred seventy-four minutes is a long time to spend wondering who on screen is performing, including the guy holding the camera. That’s the deal with You Can See Everything, and the length is a real ask, with stretches where Nathan Fielder’s deadpan act gets a little too smug for its own good. Then it gets to you. Fielder and Lance Oppenheim film Elizabeth Holmes and her partner Billy Evans at a rented beach house in the weeks before she reports to prison, and Fielder can’t shake the feeling he’s missing something. The second half is the wild part. Fielder brings in Amanda Seyfried, who played Holmes in The Dropout, to act out the conversations the cameras never got, and suddenly the movie is about who controls a story and who gets to tell it. It holds a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. A 9.0 because it’s uncomfortable, fascinating and like nothing else, even when it runs long. $67.65 says you notice a doorbell camera this week and start performing for it a little.
What works: The access is startling, and the Seyfried reenactments turn a documentary into a strange, gripping puzzle about who’s performing for whom.
What doesn’t: At 174 minutes it’s long, and Fielder’s deadpan smirk sometimes makes the film feel more clever than it needs to be.
Who it’s for: Nathan for You fans and anyone who read every Theranos headline and still has questions.

Fielder meets Holmes in prison, where filming isn’t allowed, so he and Seyfried reenact the visit, and Holmes is tearful about Evans; the film never settles whether she’s sincere. Closing text says Evans gave up his profit-sharing deal with the filmmakers before the film came out.
